Chepstow Archaeological Society has arranged, on July 3rdan evening with two great speakers.  Rick Turner, co-editor of the recent acclaimed book ‘Chepstow Castle: Its History and Buildings’, will give an illustrated talk on ‘How do you Build a Castle’, including new research into Medieval Chepstow.  Mark Corney of Bristol University and well known to Channel 4 viewers of Time Team, will talk about ‘What’s under Wetherspoons’.  He will describe the recent excavations he directed on the site of the company's new premises in Nelson Street, and discuss the fascinating artefacts revealed, which covered a period from the Stone Age right through to the Normans.

The talks will be introduced by Steve Clarke, MBE, President of the Chepstow Archaeological Society, himself a local archaeologist of some fame, having won the coveted Silver Trowel Award for work done in Monmouth by the Monmouth Archaeological Society. This is covered in his new book 'Down the Dig'

 

All three of these archaeologists are involved in the Time Team excavations at Caerwent from Tuesday 24th to Thursday 26th of June 2008. Other members of the Society will be participating in this dig
